Statement on Biblical Shepherds

Statement on Biblical Shepherds

The following summary highlights key areas of concern that The Truth Fellowship believes are especially pressing in today’s cultural and ecclesial moment. It is not a statement of fatih. These convictions reflect shared priorities among TTF pastors and leaders who are committed to clear biblical teaching and courageous pastoral leadership. These distinctives are meant to sharpen, encourage, and align those who sense the need to stand firm in the truth amid growing confusion and compromise in the church and the world.

Approach to the Canon:

1. The Sufficiency of Scripture

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” —2 Peter 1:3
– We believe the Bible is sufficient to address all matters related to the life of faith (2 Peter 1:3).

2. Shepherding like Christ

“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.” —John 10:14
– We believe that pastors should know and care for their sheep as the Chief Shepherd Jesus set this example (John 10:11-14).

3. Expository Preaching

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season…” —2 Timothy 4:2
– We believe the general diet of preaching should be expositing the text of Scripture (2 Timothy 4:2).

Approach to the Church:

4. The Primacy of the Local Church

“You make void the word of God by your tradition…” – Mark 7:13
– We believe the local church is God’s chosen means of advancing His truth in the world. Institutional Christianity often elevates systems, traditions, and control, but we affirm the central role of faithful local congregations led by biblically qualified shepherds. Our goal is not to build a new institution but to support what God has already established through the local church.

5. The Call to Speak Clearly

“Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm…” —2 Timothy 4:14
– We believe clarity is a vital act of love in pastoral ministry. In an age of confusion and compromise, pastors must not only teach truth but also identify error when necessary. Scripture provides examples of naming names to protect the flock and guard the gospel. We aim to speak plainly about both truth and falsehood for the good of Christ’s church.

6. God’s Use of the Weak and the Ordinary

“God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise…” —1 Corinthians 1:27
– We believe God often works through ordinary pastors and local churches rather than prominent figures or large institutions. His power is displayed through faithfulness, not fame. We seek to encourage and strengthen those who quietly serve, trusting that lasting impact comes through humble obedience to Christ.

7. Biblical Manhood in the Church

“Act like men; be strong.” —1 Corinthians 16:13
– We believe in the importance of men acting like men, both pastors and laymen, in an effeminized church in America (1 Corinthians 16:13).

Approach to Culture:

8. The Role of the Church in Society

“You are the salt of the earth… the light of the world.” —Matthew 5:13–16
– We believe it is the responsibility of pastors and Christians to make a difference in their communities by speaking out on biblical issues and calling for biblical change. To do so is to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16) and to love our neighbor (Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:39).

9. Moral Clarity in the Public Square

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” —Ephesians 5:11
– We believe the Bible is clear on Biblical ethics in the public square and recognize the Satanic effort to muddy the clear waters.

10. Application to Cultural Issues

“”Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, ‘Behold, I have put my words in your mouth… to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.'” – Jeremiah 1:9-10
– We believe that it is vital for pastors to apply the Bible to modern issues in the church and culture without regard to government censorship (Jeremiah 1:9-10; Mark 6:18; Acts 26:12-29).

11. The Threat of Social Justice Ideology

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit…” —Colossians 2:8
– We believe that Social Justice in its many forms is an attack on Scripture and the advancement of the Gospel and the Christian faith.

Approach to Covenant:

12. Proper Regard for the Jewish People

“My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.” – James 2:1
– We are concerned about a growing ideology that unjustly targets Jewish people as uniquely evil based on their biology and falsely attributes to them social evils that they do not uniquely cause (James 2:1).

13. Proper Respect for the Jewish People

“I will bless those who bless you…” —Genesis 12:3
“And in this way all Israel will be saved…” —Romans 11:26
– We believe in a proper respect for the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3; Romans 11:26) and that any targeted animus toward them as an ethnicity is sinful.

We pray this Statement on Biblical Pastors will embolden and equip a new generation of faithful men who will preach the Word, shepherd the flock, and refuse to compromise.
